Why I want to become your next City Councilman.

The City of Dallas is a wonderful, vibrant place to live. It is full of unlimited opportunities for people of all races and ages. As native Dallasites, my wife, Deborah, and I chose to remain in Dallas and to raise our family because of the vast potentials available here. I have seen our City develop and grow in so many productive ways, but I know the best is yet to come.

I want to be the next City Councilman for District 7 because it represents a vital, but yet undeveloped, area of our City. Our District reaches as far East as Mesquite, as far West as Oak Cliff, North to the Central Business District and South to beyond the Trinity. This area contains many of the older, more established, parks, churches and schools; however, somewhere the urban development of District 7 got left behind. While expansion and growth was happening to the North, neglect and abandonment was occurring in our District. While incentives and opportunities were being offered in other areas of the City, disinvestment was happening in our neighborhoods. The time has come to change this – NOW.

Areas that need to be addressed in District 7 are:

  • Overall Improvement of City Services
    • Improved police response times
    • Effective Code Enforcement
    • Putting the bond money to full use
  • Housing
    • Upgrade and create better housing in the district
    • Preservation and renovation of old buildings
    • Tighter regulations for absentee owners and landlords
  • Sustainable economic development
    • Use the tax incentives and TIF’s to attract business and retail
    • Job training opportunities for ex-offenders

But how do we do this?

These goals will only be achieved through active community engagement. Our District has an excellent example of the power of cooperation in the Ferguson Road area. They have demonstrated how organized, concerted efforts of communities and neighborhood associations can bring about positive change. Their comprehensive plans have reduced crime and increased code enforcement. Together, we can have this same outcome for our entire District. The Oak Cliff area could become a jewel of the City with the development and expansion of the Trinity River area. The potential for our District is unlimited; however, we must address our challenges and work together to bring about change.

As your Councilman, I pledge to work with you to achieve our goals for a better community for everyone and I know together we can make this happen.
